天河体育中心始建于1987年，主要由体育场、体育馆、游泳馆三大场馆组成，并设有棒球场、网球场、保龄球馆、门球场、室内卡丁车场、露天游泳池、健美乐苑等系列竞赛及群体活动场馆和项目场地。1995年在国家体委提倡全民健身活动的号召下，该中心率先实行全面开放，修建全国第一条健身路径，并增建树林舞场、露天羽毛球场、乒乓球活动区、儿童活动区、健身小区、篮球俱乐部等各种群体设施，成为既可举办种种体育比赛，广泛开展群众体育活动，又可举办各类大型博览会，集健身、娱乐、休闲和展示于一体的大型多功能综合性活动场所。

■Tianhe Sports Complex

　　Tianhe Sports Complex was built in 1987, consisting mainly of three sports facilities including the Sports Ground, the Stadium and the Swimming Pool. There are also a series of stadiums and fields for competition and public activities, including the Baseball Field, the Tennis Court, the Bowling Alley, the Croquet Court, the Indoor Go-car Racing Court, the Open-air Swimming Pool, and the Bodybuilding Club. Tianhe Sports Complex was opened free of charge to the ordinary citizens in the year 1995 in answer to the call of public health campaign of the National Sports Commission. The complex boasts a series of public sports facilities including the nation's first bodybuilding path, the Forest Dancing Area, the Outdoor Badminton Courts, the Table Tennis Courts, the Children's Playground, the Bodybuilding Section as well as the Basketball Club. Tianhe Sports Complex has thus become a large, multi-functional site for sports games, public sports activities and large expositions by incorporating such functions as bodybuilding, entertainment, recreation and exhibition.
